Position Description:

The Development Officer is a member of the Development Team and works in partnership with the Advancement Team to support the mission and goals of Indiana State University and the ISU Foundation.  The Development Officer will contribute to a comprehensive fundraising program by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift donors and prospects including individuals, corporations, and foundations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of major gift suspects, prospects and donors
  • Identify major gift suspects through the help of Advancement Services and meet with suspects personally in order to qualify them as major gift prospects
  • Develop and execute cultivation strategies for major gift prospects that meet the needs and goals of University priorities through major gift solicitations
    • Work with Deans, Provost, Faculty, and Program Coordinators to translate academic priorities in fundraising opportunities
    • Collaborate with Development and Advancement Team to create successful fundraising strategies
  • Identify and utilize fundraising resources including volunteers, faculty, staff, publications, and electronic communication tools to identify and cultivate major gift prospects
  • Update donor and prospect records by entering accurate and timely contact reports into database
  • Provide exceptional stewardship to Indiana State University donors
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a prospect manager for special fundraising projects as needed
  • Assist with special events by encouraging attendance, hosting guests and representing the ISU Foundation
  • Foster an atmosphere of open communication that builds trust across the organization, by building relationships between development, operations, alumni and the president's office and forging partnerships across traditional department boundaries
  • Participate in Foundation and University committees and special teams

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • At least 3-5 years of work experience in non-profit fundraising or management
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends
  • Exceptional presentation and interpersonal communication skills
