LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER

Hello all and thank you for your ongoing subscription to Racing Toward Diversity magazine. This past quarter was filled with several incredible events.

First – we held our 2nd Global Diversity Leadership Exchange (GDLE) – “Opening New Markets” on February 6 - at the New York Stock Exchange. In just our second year we were able to have as our keynote speaker Sanjit “Bunker” Roy, Founder of The Barefoot College, Tilonia, India, (named one of the Top 100 NGO’s in the world by The Global Journal in 2013), who absolutely inspired our over 150 C-suite guests with his global discussion on sustainability, new business creation, diversity and inclusion. I would like to once again thank our sponsors Pitney Bowes, AT & T, General Motors, Toyota, Fox Audience Strategy, HP, United Athletes Foundation, Great Lakes Capital and NYSE Euronext, for helping to make this event possible.

This year I will be transitioning out of my role as co-founder and turning over control to MaryAnne Howland, co-founder of the Global Diversity Leadership Exchange and CEO, IBIS Communication. I will watch from the shore as GDLE heads in a new direction. Good luck GDLE and MaryAnne. I look forward to seeing this venture achieve new heights.

Second – On February 27th I was invited to attend FINRA’s first Diversity Summit, held at One World Financial Center, NY, NY. The summit’s objective - to provide a forum for diversity practitioners from firms; financial regulators and other organizations to share best practices that link business goals to the workplace and the marketplace. Our feature story on page 14-15 provides an overview of the summit, the objectives and the future.

Third – On Friday April 26th, I was back in New York City to attend the United Athletes Foundation and Great Lakes Capital Fund announcement and financial literacy panel discussion held at Morgan Stanley headquarters, 1585 Broadway, NY, NY. Ray Lewis, Mark McDaniel and Reggie Howard who grace the cover of this issue and the feature story about the goals, ambitions, the new 100 million dollars low income housing tax credit fund can be found on page 22-23

We are continually striving to move the business case for diversity and inclusion forward in all types of industries, government agencies, non-profits, firms and environments. Thank you for continuing to share our journey, we believe it’s just good business.
