Kevin ArmstrongNew York, NY  – Rutgers – Newark Law School graduate Kevin Armstrong, Director and Managing Counsel for Pershing Advisor Solutions, has been selected by The Council of Urban Professionals (CUP) as a CUP Catalyst: Change Agent 2013 | Law.   Founded in 2007, CUP has over 1,500 individual members, a national network of 20,000, and 65 corporate partners spanning the financial services, law, media & entertainment, digital & technology, and non-profit and public sectors. 

Professionals of color and women starting in their careers often need visible examples of the diversity in leadership that exists in their respective professions. Kevin Armstrong is a leader who demonstrates that doing well and doing good need not be incompatible. He serves as an authentically successful diverse professional who is a heroic example to be celebrated for driving economic growth for his organization and contributing to the greater good through nonprofit or public sector service, mentorship and philanthropy. 

In his role at Pershing Advisor Solutions, a BNY Mellon company, Kevin provides legal advice and leadership on transactional and regulatory matters. He serves on the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Private Client Legal Committee, and Chairs the Corporate Law Section of the National Bar Association.  In 2011, he was named the Corporate Law Section’s “Outstanding Member of the Year”. Prior to joining Pershing in 2008, he worked in the Legal and Compliance Division of Morgan Stanley with coverage for its separately managed accounts (SMAs), mutual fund asset allocation, institutional consulting and financial planning businesses. He has worked for a number of financial services companies including; Fleet Financial (now Bank of America) and Ameriprise Financial, Inc. (formerly American Express Financial Advisers Inc.). In addition to his experience at these companies, he worked for the NYSE while in law school and immediately after graduation, Kevin who attended high school in Neptune, New Jersey returned to Monmouth County and clerked for the Honorable Lawrence M. Lawson, A.J.S.C.  Following his clerkship and joined the NASD (now the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority “FINRA”) in the enforcement division and focused on protecting investors through his work in conducting examinations of broker dealers. Kevin is a frequent speaker and moderator on panels concerning broker dealer law and regulation, government investigations and diversity and inclusion issues related to the legal profession.

Kevin’s passion for diversity and inclusion within the legal profession is demonstrated through his contribution to BNY Mellon’s Legal Department Diversity and Inclusion Council, where he is Deputy Chair for a group charged with developing and implementing a diverse and inclusive strategy for more than 450 employees in 15 countries. Kevin also gives back to his community through his volunteer efforts in fundraising and in support of the performing arts. He has built a national network of donors through his work on President Barak Obama's campaign. In 2012, he served on the National Finance Committee for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and was involved in voter engagement efforts as a member of the National Finance Committee of Obama for America (OFA)’s African-American Leadership Council (AALC). Kevin also serves as a mentor for law students in the Minority Student Program at Rutgers Law School.  He is the founder of an annual fundraiser that benefits Rutgers Law School students. He holds a J.D. from Rutgers Law School and a B.S. with Honors from Rutgers University. Kevin is admitted to practice law in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and before the US Supreme Court.
