(New York, NY) July 12, 2012 – NYSE Euronext, Goldman Sachs, Black Enterprise Magazine, NASDAQ OMX , the Suffolk County Community College and Expanding Communities with Economic Literacy (EXCEL) have teamed up to offer students an inside look at the work and decision-making processes of financial services executives.  During a day-long program at NYSE Euronext and NASDAQ OMX, participants will be introduced to the elements of financial education to develop strategies for building lasting wealth.  The event will take place on Friday, July 13, 2012.

The day is comprised of presentations from leading industry executives representing the various roles within the financial sector. For example, LaTomya Thomason, a member of the Black Employees Network at NYSE (BENYSE) has volunteered to talk to the group.  NYSE Euronext, Goldman Sachs, Suffolk County Community College, and EXCEL will host a luncheon, where a 10 minute presentation of an upcoming documentary, “Wall Street in the Black” will be shown.  To honor the contributions of blacks on Wall Street, both past and present, the luncheon will include a special introduction of interviewees from the documentary. Gordon Brown, author of Gordon’s Way: Ethics and Morals of Making and Spending Money and Joseph L. Searles III, the first African American floor member of the New York Stock Exchange in 1970 will also meet with the group.  The students will each receive a copy of Gordon’s Way and Black Enterprise Magazine has donated copies of their July 2012 issue, as well as other gifts for each student.

EXCEL is a newly formed non-profit organization whose mission is to expand economic literacy and professional development in underserved communities through economic education and empowerment.  The organization was formed to support the community outreach programs for “Wall Street in the Black”, a groundbreaking documentary that spotlights pioneering African Americans on Wall Street.
